1 Dead after Car Crash Following Suffolk County Police Chase

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (AP)  -- One person is dead after a driver being pursued by police crashed into another vehicle on eastern Long Island.

Suffolk County police say the crash happened at about midday in Farmingville. The incident started when a police officer tried to arrest a man suspected of stealing landscaping equipment and the suspect fled in his car.

The suspect went south onto Old Medford Road and drove through a red light, striking two vehicles.

The names of the suspect or the person who was killed were not immediately released by police.
