Several tanks of the truck exploded, sending black smoke and flames into the air around South Ozone Park, Queens, near John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Firefighters used thousands of gallons of foam to smother the high-intensity fire before it was brought under control at about 3 p.m. Officials said about half the 9,000 gallons of gas burned.
