3 Women from Same Family Die in Upstate Wreck

VERBANK, N.Y. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- Three generations of women from the same family are dead after a two-car accident in Dutchess County.

State police say the Nissan Maxima carrying the women drove through a stop sign and was hit by a Dodge Durango SUV near the hamlet of Verbank, about 60 miles south of Albany.

Authorities didn't immediately release the victims' names, but they described the driver as a 40-year-old Milton woman traveling with her 60-year-old mother and 84-year-old grandmother, both from the town of Poughkeepsie.

State police Sgt. Joseph Lutz says the driver and her grandmother were pronounced dead at the scene Sunday afternoon.

The other woman died at Saint Francis Hospital, where members of a family in the SUV were also taken.

Their names and conditions weren't immediately released.
