LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS) -- A man charged with drunkenly slamming his Mercedes into a police squad car, critically injuring the officer inside, was arraigned Monday afternoon after being released from the hospital.

Officer Kenneth Baribault, 30, (above) had actually just stopped a black SUV on suspicion of drunk driving when it happened, police said.

Rahiem Griffin, 27, of Shirley was arraigned in Hempstead and charged with assault, driving while intoxicated, and other charges. His bail was set at $200,000 bond, $100,000 cash.
Griffin told police he had "dozed off" behind the wheel.
The driver of the SUV was arraigned Monday morning. He pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $2,500 bond.
