FDNY Comes to the Rescue of Sinking Boat

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- A family from the Bronx was rescued from their sinking boat Saturday, thanks to the FDNY Marine Unit and a New York Waterway water taxi.

Terry Sheridan Reports

The Delorbe family was in their small motor boat around 7 p.m. in the East River when it began taking on water and began sinking, officials said. The New York Waterway taxi "Frank Sinatra" saw the troubled family and called in a Mayday.

Marine 5, which luckily was right in the area, rushed to the vessel and helped the four adults and three children. The family escaped the troubled ship and Marine 6 pumped the water out of the boat and towed it to safety.
