NORTH BELLPORT, N.Y. (1010 WINS/AP) -- An 11-year-old Long Island boy remains in serious condition after a bullet came through the kitchen window, hitting him in the face as he sat at the table.
1010 WINS AUDIO: Mona Rivera reports
Suffolk County Police say Jeffrey Langhorne was rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital after the shooting 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Police say the youngster, who attends Frank Long Intermediate School, was not the intended target of the semiautomatic gunfire. Two bullets lodged into the walls of the Provost Avenue home, leaving gaping holes.
Police add that authorities had to remove 15 pit bulls from the home to investigate the shooting. They believe illegal dogfighting may have been involved.
Police say the father was likely the target of the gunfire and that the shooting wasn't a random attack.
No one has been arrested.
