MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (AP)  -- A math teacher at Wantagh High School is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy.

Nassau County police say 25-year-old Heather Kennedy of Massapequa was arrested Wednesday evening at her home on charges of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

Nassau County Police say the two had sex in a car in the parking lot of Massapequa High School on March 19. The boy's father called police the next day, after his son told him why he was late getting home.

Wantagh schools Superintendent Carl Bonuso told Newsday that Kennedy, who has been a teacher for 3 years, has been reassigned outside the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.

Kennedy was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday. Her bail was set at $35,000.
