As Tim Hortons Moves In; Dunkin' Donuts Moves Out

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- A Canadian-based coffee and doughnuts chain is coming to New York City and in the process several Dunkin' Donuts stores are getting kicked out.

Steve Sandberg reports

The Tim Hortons restaurant chain is moving in next week across NYC and will be taking the place of 13 Dunkin' Donuts locations -- including the Penn Station Dunkin' Donuts -- which has been popular with commuters for years.

The Riese Organization, which operates 113 restaurants in the New York city area, said it will run the new restaurants. The sites will be Tim Hortons' first in New York City.

According to the chain's web site "our stores appeal to a broad range of consumer tastes, with a menu that includes coffee and donuts, premium coffees, flavored cappuccinos, specialty teas, home-style soups, fresh sandwiches and fresh baked goods."

But loyal Dunkin' Donuts customers aren't convinced -- at least not yet.

"I have never heard of Tim Hortons...we will see," one Dunkin' customer told 1010 WINS.

A Canadian-based coffee and doughnuts shop is taking the place of several Dunkin' Donuts stores in the Big Apple. Will you make the switch or boycott the new java joint?

I LOVE Tim Hortons! I grew up in Maine and then went to school in Michigan, so i've always had Tim Hortons around. I was up in Maine for the 4th and was just saying to my relatives how much I missed their coffee. I am SO thrilled about this. I am going to make a stop at Penn Station every day now just to get a cup of coffee!
This is news?

I've always liked Dunkin Donuts, but after a stop in a Tim Hortons on a hot Montreal day 7 years ago, I've been hoping for them to expand to NY. Good coffee, good food, reasonable prices. Looking forward to having them around!
GREAT

I'm a coffee lover, last year we went to Canada and my friend introduced me this coffee and from then on we have to look for friends who travelled very often to Canada just to ask favor to bring us big cans of brewed coffee for our supply, we really loved the taste and aroma of this tim hortons coffee.

Ask for a coffee light and sweet at a Tim Hortons and the girle looked at me like I had two heads and asked how I would like my coffee. The phrase is give me a Double Double. I'll keep my DD
Awesome -- we can't wait!

My husband and I were so excited to hear that Tim Horton's is coming to the NYC area! We've been going to Tim's in Canada for years -- their coffee is amazingly good and their donuts are fabulous! They make a maple-glazed donut that no one can match! New Yorkers should give them a try -- they will be pleasantly surprised!
WORTH A TRY
