Ben Mevorach was named News Director of America’s premier all-news radio station in November 1999. In January of 2009, he was promoted to Director of News & Programming. His journey in broadcasting spans 20 years and has taken him around the world.
His radio career began in 1984 at WCCM-AM in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He moved to WCGY-FM in Boston in 1988. During that period, he covered two Presidential races and the explosion of the Space Shuttle Columbia. In 1990, he returned to his native Long Island to help launch the area's first local network talk show, Good Morning Long Island, on WGBB/WGSM. He joined WKJY-FM in Garden City as morning news anchor in 1993 and one year later, was hired as a reporter for 1010 WINS.
Ben received the broadcast industry's highest award - the national Edward R. Murrow - three times in his career: for his coverage of the crash of TWA Flight 800, as part of the 1010 WINS team coverage of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and for his reporting from the Middle East during the 2003 US-Iraq war.
In 2008, Mr. Mevorach was selected as an Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient.
Away from his work, Ben has dedicated his life to helping children. He is actively involved in a number of charitable causes and his work on behalf of non-profit organizations has been formally recognized by, among others, the Association of Children with Down Syndrome, The Long Island Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Parents of Autistic Children, and the Songs of Love Foundation.
Mr. Mevorach serves on media advisory panels at St. John’s University and Hofstra University. He is the recipient of the Nassau Community College Distinguished Alumni Award and he currently teaches media reporting at The State University of New York at the College of Old Westbury.
After receiving his A.A. degree from Nassau Community College, Mr. Mevorach graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University.
Mr. Mevorach grew up in East Meadow and currently resides in Malverne with is wife Cindy and three children.
