Bloomberg's Third Term Bill Goes to Council

NEW YORK (AP)  -- A bill that would give Mayor Michael Bloomberg a shot at a third term is now progressing through the New York City Council.

Stan Brooks Reports

Legislation that would change the term limits law to allow three consecutive terms of four years is being introduced.

Members won't vote Tuesday, but two hearings are scheduled for next week.

Opponents to Bloomberg's plan are also introducing legislation to stop him. They believe the voters, and not just the City Council, should have a say in changes to the term limits law.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn still won't say publicly what she thinks about either proposal.
