Body Found in Woods Identified as Missing Greenport Boy

YAPHANK, N.Y. (AP)  -- A body found in a wooded area of Long Island has been identified as that of a 15-year-old boy who disappeared last month.

Suffolk County police say Eber Lopez of Greenport was reported missing on June 8 after attending a party in Southold.

His body was found on June 18 in a wooded area in Farmingville. Police Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick says the boy had been shot.

Investigators believe a group of men with gang affiliations confronted the boy at the party. They say the victim was not a gang member.

Fitzpatrick says a tip led police to the wooded area.
