Catherine Smith joined the 1010 WINS news team in April, 1999. She's a veteran broadcaster whose career began in college when she was chosen to be the first female disc jockey at the University of Notre Dame's radio station.
Her first news job was in her hometown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Then it was on to all-news WCAU in Philadelphia before landing the afternoon drive anchor shift at WNBC in New York.
Catherine has anchored at the NBC, ABC, and RKO radio networks.
She was News Director of WYNY-FM and has worked at many of the stations in the New York market including WQXR, WOR, WABC and WMXV. She also launched Shadow Traffic's news operation.
Catherine says she really enjoys the all news format after so many years of doing five-minute network newscasts. An added bonus to joining 1010 WINS is that she gets to see her husband more often. Catherine is married to fellow 1010 WINS anchor Doug O'Brien.
