Justin Bieber Event Canceled at Roosevelt Field Mall Because of Oversized Crowd

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (1010 WINS)  -- Singer Justin Bieber is too big for Roosevelt Field Mall.

The teen idol's planned performance at the Long Island mall was canceled at the last minute Friday afternoon after a crowd got a little out of hand, police say.

Approximately 3,000 fans showed up for the event which included an autograph signing at a store called Justice.

Bieber sent a message to his fans on Twitter around 4:30 p.m. stating, "they are not allowing me to come into the mall. if you dont leave I and my fans will be arrested as the police just told us."

Minutes later he tweeted that the event was canceled. "The event at roosevelt mall is cancelled. please go home. the police have already arrested one person from my camp. I dont want anyone hurt."

Nassau County Police say they were called to the scene after people in the crowd started pushing and shoving their way towards the store.

Four to five people apparently reported minor injuries.

Police James Roppo, 44, the Senior Vice President of sales at Island Def Jam Records, was arrested in connection with the incident. Charges are pending.

Police Sgt. Anthony Repallone says there will be an investigation due to the size of the crowd in lieu of a stampede at a Valley Stream Wal-Mart last year in which a security guard was trampled to death.

Bieber apologized to his fans on Twitter saying, "I was just trying to come meet fans and never meant to dissapoint anyone."

Bieber, 15, is a Canadian singer who was discovered on YouTube. A talent manager saw his videos on the web site, introduced him to Usher, and helped get him a record deal with Island, according to Billboard.
