HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell is urging federal health officials to release a second round of anti-viral medications from the Strategic National Stockpile as cases of swine flu mount.
Rell says she has also asked the state's Department of Public Health for an inventory of anti-viral medication in Connecticut.
The Centers for Disease Control provided the state with more than 130,000 treatment courses of Tamiflu and Relenza. That's about 25 percent of the state's allocation for acute care hospitals. Rell says the state needs more to meet any surge in demand.
The drugs are administered in the early stages of illness and help to lessen the severity and duration of the symptoms.
Each treatment course lasts 10 days.
