Connecticut Gas Prices Set Record High Again

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)  -- For the second month in a row, gasoline and diesel prices in Connecticut have set record highs and the state has the highest gas prices in the Northeast, the AAA reported.

Prices at the pumps for May have risen to $3.96 a gallon for regular gasoline, the automobile club said. In April, they had set a record high of $3.48 a gallon.

A year ago the average price was $3.19 a gallon in Connecticut and $3.07 nationally.

Diesel in the state climbed from $4.37 last month to $4.64 in May. Nationally, diesel fuel has jumped from $4.12 last month to $4.39.

Connecticut leads eight Northeast states with the highest prices, followed by New York at $3.91.

Nationally, the average price went up in the past month, from $3.39 to $3.73 on Tuesday.

The automobile association surveys about 1,000 gas stations in Connecticut and nearly 100,000 across the country daily to determine average prices.
