Police: Long Island Schoolgirl Made Up Story about Bus Stop Grab

MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (AP)  -- Police say a Long Island schoolgirl made up a story about being grabbed by a man at a bus stop and she's being charged.

Suffolk County police are not releasing the girl's name or age, but they say she's in middle school or high school.

They say she told them Wednesday that a man driving a van tried to grab her in Mastic Beach.

But now they say they've discovered she made it all up, and they've charged her as a juvenile. They haven't stated the charge, but the equivalent adult charge would be falsely reporting an incident.

It's not the first time this has happened in Mastic Beach. In January, a girl reported being grabbed and fondled while walking to her high school. Police say she recanted her story and admitted making it up to avoid taking a school test.
