9 Hurt after NYPD Cop Car Jumps Curb in Manhattan

NEW YORK (AP)  -- A police cruiser driving in Manhattan's Lower East Side jumped a sidewalk curb and struck several pedestrians after hitting another car coming out of a driveway.

Police say the 52-year-old driver of a Cadillac, its 52-year-old passenger, and five pedestrians at the scene were hospitalized, including 49-year-old man who was standing on the sidewalk and suffered a broken leg and head trauma. A baby in the vicinity of the crash was also transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Two officers in the cruiser were taken to a hospital with minor neck and back injuries, police say.

The accident happened as the 9th Precinct officers drove on Avenue D Tuesday around 4:15 p.m.
