Dogs Rescued from Puppy Mills Getting Ready for Adoption on Long Island
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- They're cute, cuddly and they need loving homes. Dogs rescued from puppy mills will be put up for adoption at the North Shore Animal League.
Approximately 150 cast-off puppy mill dogs from several Midwest states were transported Wednesday by Best Friends Animal Society to the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington.
After receiving much-needed grooming, TLC and full physical and behavioral evaluations by animal league veterinary and behavioral staff, the dogs will become available for adoption.
While the majority of the dogs will remain at the Animal League, two other animal welfare organizations -- Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons and Wainscott, N.Y., and Noah's Ark Animal Welfare Association of, Ledgewood, N.J. -- will provide homes for the dogs until they are adopted.
Among the rescued dogs that arrived at the animal league are adults that were used for breeding, adolescents and puppies including the following breeds: Dachshunds, Westies, French bulldogs, Poodles, Boston terriers, Beagles, Bichon Frise and Brussels Griffons.
