NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- A former Woodbridge police officer has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage boy and taking sexually suggestive photos of a 15-year-old girl.
Fifty-year-old Douglas Karlson was retried this spring on the sex assault charges. A state appeals court had overturned his original conviction. Karlson pleaded guilty to endangering the girl.
The sentence imposed Friday by Superior Court Judge Frederick DeVesa in New Brunswick includes a six-year period of parole ineligibility. But he could be released in as little as 3{ years because of credit for time served.
Karlson was a Woodbridge police officer for 18 years before his arrest in 2005.
