Former NYPD Cadet Shot, Wounded in the Bronx
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A former New York Police Department cadet is in stable condition after being shot in the stomach in the lobby of his Bronx apartment building.
Carol D'Auria reports
The 23-year-old man was shot near the intersection of Avenue St. John and Beck Street at about 5:30 a.m., officials said.
Police say the former cadet was on his way home when a struggle ensued in the lobby of his building, at 950 Avenue St. John.
Police say the gunman fired a shot that struck the man in the stomach.
Investigators think the man may have been targeted, but don't believe that it had anything to do with his prior connection to the NYPD.
Police also said the attacker appeared to have hidden his face -- possibly with a mask.
Police say the former cadet is hospitalized at Lincoln hospital in stable condition. His name has not been released.
The man was reportedly kicked out of the cadet program following a May arrest in connection with a domestic dispute. Police said that the man had been suspended from the cadet program several times.
