WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- An ex-police officer in Ramapo has been indicted on federal charges of crossing state lines to stalk his estranged wife, and placing a GPS system on her car to track her.
James Curley pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in U.S. District Court in White Plains. He was accused of driving from New York to New Jersey with the intent to stalk and possibly injure his estranged wife, among other charges, according to his lawyer.
Curley was also charged in Emerson, N.J., with stalking and violating an order of protection to stay clear of his wife. He was also accused of threatening his wife's boss.
The incidents occurred between August and October 2006.
He is being held in federal custody until a Friday hearing.
Curley's brother said he was falsely accused of crimes by his wife and the police department.
The former officer was fired in April for violating departmental rules, and is challenging the dismissal in court.
