Dr. Brian McDonough on Exercising in Groups

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  --  I have to admit it, I’m one of those people who have tried to enjoy jogging, but despite my best efforts, I find it quite boring.

I usually get aerobic exercise from competitive sports and probably run more than if I were jogging because of the interaction with other people. But maybe I’m approaching it all wrong.

People who enjoy jogging have old me that I would have more fun if I ran with others.

There actually is a study which has fond that many people do better when they exercise with friends. The researchers studied rats and found that exercising in groups is better for the brain.

They also found that the effects of running on the generation of new brain cells in the brains of adult rats housed in groups in isolation showed that those who ran in groups actually had more brain development than those who stayed by themselves.

Of course, the non-jogging argument is that you can play basketball or tennis with friends and avoid jogging altogether. Like most of us, I am also good at excuses.
