Dr. Brian McDonough on Foot Blisters

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- To this day, it goes down as a classic study…one which supports the concept that scientists will study just about anything at any time. The report was from the University of Missouri Columbia.

The researchers looked at socks and foot comfort and found that sweaty socks made from 100% cotton are the worst offenders when it comes to causing blisters.

On the surface, the study seems odd and perhaps a waste of money, but it has actually been quite important. Over the years, it has been quite helpful.

For athletes or diabetics with circulation problems, the information can be crucial. These people need to minimize blisters and reduce the chances of infection.

Now in case you’re wondering, nylon socks perform the best. Socks made from a blend of cotton and synthetic fibers scored somewhere in between nylon and cotton.
