MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York City police officer has pleaded guilty to selling handguns that he stole from a police evidence room, prosecutors said.
Hubertus Vannes, 31, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sale of a firearm in Nassau County Court.
The Roslyn Heights resident also pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possesion of a controlled substance after he admitted to buying the painkiller Vicodin illegally.
Vannes agreed to a 5-year prison sentence. Prosecutors say Vannes admitted to selling the handguns to a man who sold him the painkillers. Vannes was arrested with 76 tablets of Vicodin.
He's been suspended from the police force and is expected to be sentenced in July.
