Dr. Brian McDonough on Getting Along With Others

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- I’ve been waiting for a study like this. It’s a reason to tell people why it’s a good idea to be kind to each other and smile.

Yes, we all know there are psychological advantages to being nice and there is no doubt that it’s easier to get through the day if you’re in good spirits, but an Oregon study takes it to the next level.

There’s new evidence that getting along with others is good for your health.

The report looked at 700 older adults and found that those who got along with their relatives, friends and neighbors, were less likely to report health problems and physical limitations.

This study was unique because it looked specifically at interactions between people.

According to the authors of the study, they suspect there is some impact on the immune system as well as the possibility that when there’s a great deal of interpersonal conflict going on in someone’s life, they’re not able to take care of medical conditions as well.
