Homicide Ruling after Woman's Body Found in Uniondale

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP/ 1010 WINS)  -- Police have identified a woman whose body was found by a meter reader outside an empty house on Long Island.

Nassau County Police said Tuesday that the woman was 36-year-old Jamaica Smith of Rosedale, Queens. She had been reported missing on Nov. 25.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that Smith was last seen dropping off her 6-year-old daughter at a school in Laurelton. She had recently moved to New York from Tennessee.

Nassau County Police have not released any details about her death. A meter reader called 911 Monday after making the grisly discovery in the house's side yard.
