GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- A Hudson Valley man is dead after crashing his car while commuting to work in New York City.
Police say 31-year-old Jonathan Malizia of Wappingers Falls was driving south on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh at around 6 a.m. Sunday when his SUV veered into the median, hit a bridge then flipped over and burst into flames.
State Police Investigator Joe Becerra says it appears Malizia might have fallen asleep at the wheel. Investigators have ruled out drugs and alcohol and are looking at speed and driver fatigue as possible causes.
A passenger, 48-year-old Christopher Hogan of Stormville, survived and is in stable condition at a hospital. Both were on their way to work at Verizon in New York City.
The accident closed the parkway for about four hours.
