JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS) -- Jersey City officials say work crews have repaired a broken water main that disrupted service for the Newport section of the city.
Police Lt. Edgar Martinez says the city expects everyone to have water by 3 a.m. Tuesday.
However, a boil water advisory will remain in effect for the next 72 hours. Residents are advised to boil water before cooking, washing food, brushing teeth or making ice cubes.
Sgt. Greg Kierce, coordinator for the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management, said the break occurred around 4 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 18th and Washington.
About 35,000 people were affected. Martinez said service was restored to about 50 percent of them by 10:30 p.m. Monday.
The cause of the break is under investigation.
