L.I. Court Officer, Kids Hit by Alleged Drunk Driver
LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island court officer and his young children are doing well after being rammed by a man allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol in Brentwood on Wednesday afternoon.
James Martinez, 33, an officer at First District Court in Central Islip, was making a left at Second Avenue and Hilltop Drive when he was broad-sided by a car that had run the light, police said.
"It was scary stuff," Martinez said. "I'm just glad my kids are all right."
Madison Martinez, 5, was treated for minor cuts at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. One-year-old Christian Martinez also received a few cuts to his face and mouth.
Officer Martinez placed 52-year-old Hector Rivera under arrest at the scene. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Rivera was also treated at Southside Hospital for unknown injuries.
