L.I. Man Accused of Keeping Ex Captive in Apartment

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)  -- Police say a Long Island man used violence to hold his ex-girlfriend and their 6-year-old daughter captive inside an apartment for three days.

Police say 43-year-old Manuel Bonilla would beat his ex-girlfriend each time she tried to escape from her Uniondale apartment. They say the woman was treated for a fractured finger.

The child was not injured.

Bonilla pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, burglary and aggravated contempt at a court appearance in Hempstead on Tuesday. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail.

Police say Bonilla forced his way into the Uniondale apartment on Nov. 29 and then wouldn't allow the woman and their daughter to leave. They say when she called 911 after he left the house Monday afternoon on an errand.
