L.I. Man Killed in Crash, Cop Hurt During Investigation

LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS)  -- A Long Island man is dead after being run down by a van on E. 12 street in Huntington Station, Friday night.

Juan Reyes, 39, of Huntington Station was either standing in the roadway or crossing the road when he was hit, suffolk police said.  The van was being driven by Phillip Grasso, 80, also of Huntington Station.

Reyes was later pronounced dead at Huntington Hospital.

Grasso's van has been impounded, police said, but so far, no charges have been filed.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Suffolk Police Second Squad at 631-854-8252,
or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

During investigation into the crash, Suffolk Police Officer John Mcaleavey received minor injuries when a woman drove her car through the crime scene.

The driver, Carlene Kovacs, 49, of Huntington Station, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, authorities said.
