Police Officers Open Fire on Driver in the Bronx

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- A suspect is recovering from a gunshot wound Friday after police opened fire in the Bronx.

Police sources say cops tried to pull the man over after he was spotted driving erratically, but instead of stopping, he slowed down and then took off.

Police said the suspect did this several times, then stopped abruptly causing cops to pull up to the side of his car in order to avoid hitting it.

When police asked the driver not to move and keep his hands on the steering wheel, the driver suddenly reached over to the passenger side and officers opened fire, sources said.

Police fired four shots, striking the man once in the hand, officials said. He was treated at Lincoln Hospital.

The man has not been charged yet with any crime.

Police searched the car and reportedly found two boxcutters.
