WYANDANCH, N.Y. (AP) -- Police say robbers burst into a friendly card game at a Long Island home and opened fire, wounding two women and killing the host when he tried to fight back.
Suffolk County police were searching for suspects late Saturday.
Police say two masked men charged into Livingstone Kirton's Wyandanch home shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The intruders brandished a shotgun and a handgun and shot the women _ one in the arm, one in the abdomen. Both were taken to a hospital for surgery.
Police say the 48-year-old Kirton was shot in the chest as he struggled with one of the robbers. He died at his home.
Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick says the card game was just a get-together, not high-stakes gambling.
