MetroNorth Train Hits Man in Putnam County

GARRISON, N.Y. (AP)  -- A man has lost both his legs after a MetroNorth train struck him near the Garrison station in Putnam County.

The incident happened about 4:15 p.m. today as the Hudson line train was traveling north.

A MetroNorth spokesman says the train's engineer spotted the man lying on the tracks. The train tried to stop.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition and identity are unknown.

The MetroNorth spokesman says the man was still alive when rescuers pulled him from the tracks.
