Mark Mason



Mark Mason, a thirty-four year broadcast veteran, is the executive editor and program director of 1010 WINS, the nation’s leading all-news station. Mason also serves as the Vice President of News for CBS Radio, consulting the company’s all-news stations around the country as well as being a member of the Associated Press Broadcast Advisory Board.

Prior to coming to 1010 WINS in 1996, the preceding 10 years of Mason's career were centered on sports programming. More recently, he was General Manager of the ESPN Radio Network where he secured the national radio rights for NBA game broadcasts and expanded the network's program offerings to include GameDay: The NFL on ESPN Radio and The Fabulous Sports Babe. Before coming to ESPN, he programmed the nation's first all-sports radio station, WFAN Sportsradio 66, where he paired the afternoon drive team of Mike and the Mad Dog and created WFAN 20/20 Sports.

Mason also was responsible for the transition of the legendary rock giant WABC from Musicradio 77 into Talkradio 77. During his tenure there, he installed Bob Grant as the station's afternoon drive host and secured both the New York Yankees and New York Jets broadcast rights. Before WABC, Mason programmed WMCA Real People Radio 57 with such notable talent as Long John Nebel, Barry Gray, Bob Grant, Barry Farber, Sally Jessy Raphael, Bruce Williams, John Sterling, Art Rust, Jr. and Candy Jones.

His career began at WVOX AM & FM in Westchester, where he was the station's program director. He also hosted morning and afternoon drive programs as well as a midday call-in show. Additionally, Mason programmed the launch of Westchester’s standards-formatted WRTN ReturnRadio 93.5 FM.

Every year since it’s inception in 2000, Mason was named "One of The Best Radio Programmers in America" in the Major Market category by the radio trade magazine Radio Ink, ranking third on that list in 2001. He has received recognition from The Associated Press, The New York State Broadcasters Association, The National Association of Broadcasters, the International Radio Festival, the March of Dimes AIR Awards, the Clio Awards and the RTNDA.

Mason is a native of New York and is a 1972 graduate of Ithaca College Roy H. Park School of Communications in Ithaca, New York.
