McGreevey Divorce Trial Takes a Day Off

ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP)  -- A day of rest Tuesday in the contentious divorce trial of the nation's first openly gay governor and his estranged wife.

Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey will be back on the stand when his divorce trial resumes Wednesday in Elizabeth.

McGreevey, now a 50-year-old Episcopal seminary student, is testifying that his income is limited and he is too poor to pay alimony.

Forty-one-year-old Dina Matos McGreevey wants to be compensated for perks she enjoyed as the governor's wife, which included use of state police helicopters and two beach houses, a personal assistant and household staff.

The warring couple has been estranged since a gay sex scandal toppled his administration in 2004.

They agreed on custody arrangements for their only child, but remain far apart on whether _ and how much _ she should be paid in alimony, child support and damages.
