NEW YORK (AP)  -- Metro North Railroad says it has ended the speed restrictions through the area where a building collapsed at 124th Street in East Harlem so trains are now running on or close to schedule.

The speed restrictions were lifted at 6:30 a.m. The restrictions had caused scattered delays of five to ten minutes this morning.

The vacant five-story apartment building partially collapsed yesterday, leading to the suspension of dozens of rush-hour trains. Officials feared the train vibrations could cause more bricks to fall. There were no reports of injuries.

Department of Buildings spokeswoman Kate Lindquist says two of the building's walls and several interior floors partially collapsed.

A spokesman for building owner Jared Kushner says they had plans to rehabilitate the building, which had been vacant for six months. Then, two days ago, bricks began falling from the building. Engineers for the company visited the site, deemed the buildings unsafe and contacted city buildings officials to get permission to begin demolishing them.
