HOBOKEN, N.J. (AP) -- An athletic field reopens with new artificial turf.
Hoboken authorities closed the Frank Sinatra Park field after lead was detected five weeks ago.
That field and a college stadium field in Ewing were then shut after testing by the state discovered lead in the turf blades.
Artificial turf manufacturers say the lead poses no risk to humans because it's contained within the blades and doesn't get out. But officials in Hoboken and at The College of New Jersey opted to close their fields and replace the turf.
New Jersey's findings prompted an ongoing national inquiry into artificial turf fields by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. It should be completed this summer.
