Father Sentenced in Baby's Death

WOODBURY, N.J. (AP)  -- A Gloucester County man who admitted causing his infant son's death has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

William J. Duncan II pleaded guilty in March to aggravated manslaughter in the May 2006 death of 3-month-old son. The 25-year-old Franklinville man said he pushed the boy while the infant was lying on his chest, and the boy struck his head on a fish tank stand.

He then placed his son in a cradle, and didn't call for help until he discovered later that the child was unresponsive. The baby was resuscitated by emergency workers, but died a few hours later.

Before being sentenced Wednesday by state Superior Court Judge Walter L. Marshall Jr., Duncan told the court ``I am not a monster'' and ``I think I'm good enough to take care of kids.''
