N.J.'s Republican Senate Candidates to Debate

TRENTON, N.J. (AP)  --  The three Republican candidates for U.S. Senate in New Jersey are squaring off in the first debate of the campaign season.

Former congressman Dick Zimmer, state Sen. Joe Pennacchio and college professor Murray Sabrin will participate in Monday's event.

The three are hoping to win the Republican nomination in the June 3 primary.

The winner will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Rep. Rob Andrews or Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello in the November election.

The Republicans' exchange will be broadcast live on NJN, the state television network, and will be rebroadcast later.

The Democrats will debate May 30 on NJN.
