NEW YORK (AP) -- The president of the New York Public Library has announced plans to retire.
Paul LeClerc said in a statement that he will retire in the summer of 2011.
A committee will search for his successor.
The former Hunter College president has been at the library's helm since 1993. He's credited with leading the library system into the digital age.
Under his watch, the library digitized its catalog, launched a Web site and began offering downloadable e-books, videos and music. It also started partnerships with companies such as Google.
He's overseen some $500 million in capital projects. The library's endowment has more than doubled.
