N.Y. Woman Sent to Prison for UConn Hit-and-Run

VERNON, Conn. (AP)  -- A state judge has sentenced a New York woman to six months in prison for her role in a hit-and-run accident that killed a University of Connecticut freshman last year.

Nineteen-year-old Michele Ann Hall of Wantagh, N.Y., on Long Island was accused of urging her then-boyfriend to flee after his SUV struck Carlee Wines of Manalapan, N.J., on the Storrs campus in January 2007.

Hall was convicted in April of hindering prosecution as part of a plea deal. She was sentenced Tuesday by Rockville Superior Court Judge Carl Schuman.

Wines' parents opposed the plea deal because they believed the punishment wasn't sufficient.

The SUV's driver, Anthony Alvino, also of Long Island, is serving a 37-month prison sentence. He was visiting Hall, who was also a UConn freshman at the time, when the accident happened.
