NJ Transit To Maintain Aging Diesel Locomotives

NEWARK, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS)  -- NJ Transit has agreed to spend at least $6 million to develop a maintenance program for its aging fleet of diesel locomotives.

The agency believes the program is more cost-effective than overhauling more than 100 engines at about $3 million per locomotive.

NJ Transit executive director Rich Sarles tells the Statehouse Bureau for The Star-Ledger of Newark and The Record of Bergen County the specialized program will use customized diagnostic tools to detect problems.
