Trial Begins for Mom Accused of Hiding Daughter in Spain
HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS) -- A woman accused of illegally hiding her daughter in Spain from her ex-husband is on trial in New Jersey.
Maria Jose Carrascosa has been held in jail for contempt of court for three years.
Ex-husband Peter Innes says when the couple signed an agreement when they separated in 2004 that neither of them would take their daughter, Victoria, out of the country.
A judge later awarded him custody of the girl.
The child remains in Spain, where one court ruled she cannot leave until she turns 18.
Carrascosa faces up to 10 years in prison if she's convicted of "interference with custody.''
