NY Times Skyscraper Climber Pleads Guilty

NEW YORK (AP)  -- A French daredevil who climbed the outside of The New York Times' 52-story building in Manhattan has been sentenced to three days of community service and a $250 fine after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct.

Alain Robert scaled the tower in June. As he climbed, the 45-year-old Robert unfurled a banner that read, "Global warming kills more people than a 9/11 every week.'' Police arrested him when he arrived at the top. Two other men have pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from similar climbs.

Judge Barry Kamins said that after Robert completes the community service at the Gay Men's Health Crisis the record of this arrest will be sealed if he does not get arrested within the next year.

Robert's Web site says he has climbed more than 70 skyscrapers around the world.
