LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS)  -- A serial bank robber who started his crime spree nearly two years ago has staged three robberies since Friday, police said.

Police believe the man is responsible for two bank robberies that happened within a half-hour of each other on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses who say they saw the robber at the banks located in New Hyde Park and Elmont gave detectives similar descriptions, police said.  The banks are less than three miles apart.

Nobody was reported hurt in either of the heists.  There's been no word on how much the robber got away with.

The robber allegedly also struck a bank on Friday.

Police say the man is responsible for 10 successful robberies and several attempts in New York City, Nassau and Suffolk Counties since the crime spree started in May 2006 and surfaced again in 2007. There are apparently large gaps in time between robberies.

The man has posed as a fisherman, pirate, and in the past three robberies has worn a hasidic-type hat and an Indiana Jones hat, police say.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
