NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- Hundreds of people are rallying in New York City outside the police precinct where a rookie cop who killed a plainclothes policeman works.
New York officials called for a federal probe Saturday of the shooting of Officer Omar Edwards.

Rev. Al Sharpton questioned why police who saw Edwards running with a gun pulled up from behind. Congressman
Charles Rangel joined Sharpton in calling for a federal investigation of the shooting.
Rangel says that the fact that Edwards is black put him more at risk than a white officer in a similar scenario. The officer that shot Edwards is white.
Hundreds of people joined Sharpton and Rangel in a march of over a mile from Sharpton's offices to the Harlem precinct. A vigil there is under way.
Mayor Bloomberg met with the widow of Officer Edwards Saturday and assured her and the family that an in depth investigation into the shooting will be conducted. Bloomberg said Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morganthau would conduct the investigation. Bloomberg also said that police training will be reviewed and admitted that we may never know exactly what happened that night.
