NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- The 16-year-old camp counselor who was hailed as a hero for stopping a school bus carrying nine children after the driver collapsed behind the wheel and died was honored by Mayor Michael Bloomberg Friday.
Stan Brooks reports
Rachel Taylor Guzy -- who does not even have a learner's permit -- jumped into the driver's seat and pulled the emergency brake after the driver was rendered unconscious by a deadly heart attack.
Bloomberg presented her with a crystal apple from Tiffany's.
None of the children were injured in the accident that occurred last month in Flushing, Queens.
Police say the 59-year-old bus driver, Ramon Fernandez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
