NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man has been rushed to the hospital after having his leg severed by a cab in Brooklyn.

Police say a Mill Basin cab traveling on E57th Street south of Avenue L around 7:45 p.m. swerved to avoid a car pulling out from a driveway on the right side of the road and slammed into the man who was across the street putting his child in a car-seat.
The man was rushed to Bellevue Hospital for possible reattachment surgery after his leg was amputated at the knee. Neighbors say they tried to help the man by putting his leg on ice.
The man's wife and child were not seriously injured when the cab crashed into their car, police say.
