DEER PARK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County police say a parolee was arrested after attacking a woman getting into her car at a department store parking lot.
Police say around 5 p.m. Friday, Elyse Pattinger was grabbed from behind as she tried to get into her car at a Kohl's parking lot. She told police she felt a knife pressing against her neck, and she was forced into her car by the attacker who beat her as he tried to steal her keys. She was able exit out the passenger's side as he attempted to start the car.
Bystanders gathered and the suspect eventually fled on foot.
Police say the suspect, Carlton Frierson, was found hiding behind trash bins in the back of a nearby liquor store. He is being held pending an arraignment and was charged with robbery. He was recently paroled on similar charges. Pattinger was treated for swelling and bruising and was later released.
